In the harsh dry sand a flower blooms, standing alone, a wonderful sight. So our life needs to be in this harsh world, an oasis in the desert, a shining light in the darkness. Are we the salt and light? Have we lost our saltiness? Has the light of our faith grown dim? What are we hungry and thirsty for? Are we like the deer that pants for the streams of water? Are we living not by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God? Or are we hungry and thirsty for the great things of this world? A pursuit of futility: naked I come from my mother’s womb, and naked will I go to meet my heavenly Father. Are we different from those around us? Different so that we can make a difference, so that people will see and know that there is a God living in us, that there is something different about our faith. Are we salty enough? Have we lost our flavour? Are we alive like this flower, or is our faith weary and dying?
